Two Prestigious Parisian Performances for Cirque Éloize

Montréal, Monday, November 1, 2010 – The fruit of a long, rewarding relationship with the French public, still going strong after more than 15 years, Cirque Éloize was honoured to be invited to perform Rain and iD at two of the most prestigious show halls in Paris.

The illustrious Théâtre du Rond-Point will be presenting Daniele Finzi Pasca’s Rain from December 16, 2010 to January 15, 2011. This show features characters from collections of old photographs, as beautiful and stalwart as our grandparents were. As for the sky, it rains not only precipitation, but also surprises.

The Rain show ran at the Théâtre du Trianon for 6 weeks in 2006, garnering reviews unanimous in their praise of the show’s quality and originality. Rain has been performed over 800 times throughout the world since its creation in 2004. This return to the French capital only confirms Cirque Éloize’s unprecedented success.

Just off the Champs-Élysées, Théâtre du Rond-Point is one of the most prestigious show halls in Paris. The playhouse was founded in 1838 and is dedicated to showcasing living playwrights.

In December 2011, it will be the renowned Théâtre National de Chaillot’s turn to welcome iD, Cirque Éloize’s brand new show, directed by Jeannot Painchaud. This will be the first time the theatre presents a contemporary circus performance. Extremely well received in Montréal and Toronto this summer, iD is a young, energetic, resolutely modern piece that hits home every time.

Founded by Jean Vilar, also the founder of the Festival d’Avignon, the Théâtre National de Chaillot is primarily dedicated to the art of dance, which is why iD, which blends urban dance and circus arts, was selected. The theatre has made it its mission to build bridges between emblematic contemporary dance performances over the last four decades as well as new material. It also regularly presents Robert Lepage’s creations and has recently put on Wajdi Mouawad’s trilogy.

In keeping with Cirque Éloize’s philosophy, iD brings together multi-talented artists from various countries and seeks out new forms of art. Dreamed up by Jeannot Painchaud, this dynamic show features circus and street arts set to a captivating score by Jean-Phi Goncalvez and Alex McMahon. The energy is through the roof!

“After 15 years of touring and development in France, we are thrilled to be invited to perform in two of the most prestigious show halls, which have welcomed the world’s greatest performers. This recognition means a great deal to Cirque Éloize” said Vincent Messager, who has been in charge of development in France since 1998.

Jeannot Painchaud, Cirque Éloize’s CEO and artistic director, added: “France has always been at the forefront of our development strategy in Europe and the French public has been very loyal. Since its foundation, Cirque Éloize’s seven shows have been performed in 64 cities of the Republic. These two invitations to perform in Paris’ renowned show halls mark a new chapter in the troupe’s history.”

iD is a production of Theatre T & Cie.
